The role of cadastral system for a good administration of land in Republic of Korea

The land administration system is mainly concerned with administrative and operational processes dealing with information about the tenure, value and use of land. The maintenance and management of the cadastral information in the cadastral organizations is a very important issue for the implementation of surveying and mapping. Many activities, such as land use planning, taxation, and legal protection for the land tenure are based on this cadastral information. During the last ten years the cadastral organization in Korea has experienced tremendous changes in terms of technology and institutional issues. Some of technological change is quite unique due to the different working process and environment. However all of changes in cadastral organization have been conducted in the framework of the Korean governmentts innovation roadmap and organizationns efforts for increasing competitiveness. This paper focuses on the role of cadastral system for a good administration of land in Korea which is widely known that providing poor people secure land tenure and facilitating land transactions are key issues for economic growth and poverty reduction.
