The place of H.M. Land Registry in the development of a National Geographic Information System in the UK

Smith, P.J.

With abstract in English. With references.

This paper described the developments in computerisation within HM Land Registry, initially aimed at increasing its efficiency, but which in the longer term will enable the land register and mapping records to be accessed as part of a multi-purpose national geographic information system. The implementation of a computer system for the land register records is currently in hand, and is scheduled to be introduced into all land registries in 1994. Studies and trials on the computerisation of the related map records have also been carried out, and an operational digital mapping system is installed in one district land registry.
