Land rearrangement in implementation of nature reserves in Finland

Sillanpaa, Jouko

Land rearrangement is in accordance with the Real Estate Formation Act (KML) a newish means for implementing land use projects, such as nature reserves, so as to minimize disadvantages. Land rearrangement has been used successfully for implementing nature reserves for about ten years. In practice we have reached a situation, where the property division of the target area and the surroundings thereof is generally considered far better than before the land rearrangement. A major problem with land rearrangement is the lack of suitable land for exchange in Southern and Central Finland.
