HUS-ITC joint education programme on land administration : achievements and challenges

At present, the innovation and modernization process of Vietnamese Land Administration System (LAS) is being carried out with the aim to manage and utilise land resources more effectively, to develop the real estate market in order to meet the requirements of industrialization and modernization of the country and global economic integration. In recent years, in order to do these policies,the Vietnam Ministry of National resources and Environment has implementednumerous international co-operation projects for modernization of LAS, such asCPLAR, SEMLA and VLAB in co-operation with Sweden, Australia and theWorld Bank, amongst others. One of the requirements for modernising the Vietnamese LAS is the demand for human resource of high quality, especially at international level. To partially satisfy this demand, since 2005, the Faculty of Geography - VNU University of Science (HUS), has established an intensive cooperation with ITC, University of Twente, The Netherlands. The cooperation has the aim to train teaching staff and graduated students in the form of short courses focusing on land administration. The short courses are taught by ITCCs Professors and leading Vietnamese scientists in the field of Land Administration. The next step is to design and implement join full MSc courses in Land Administration and GeoInformatics.
