Digital land information systems in Japan

In Japan many organizations of the government, universities and industries have developed digital land information databases of grid, polygon or vectors, since the National Land Agency of Japan has started the digital national land information system in 1974. This paper summarizes these digital land information systems and their applications. The paper also introduces some technical developments in Japan as well as technical problems to be solved in future.
