Comparison of total station/advanced GPS survey and high resolution satellite imagery : a case of Koga dam and irrigation project

Palm, Lars

In order to settle land ownership/possession boundaries and parcel areas various surveying methods can be used, either individually or in combination. This paper will make some comparisons of terrestrial survey of total stations and/or advanced GPS on the one side with high resolution satellite imagery interpretation on the other. The study has only used available actual data from the ongoing Koga dam and irrigation project and thus no scientific approach was used from the beginning. The comparison will outline some differences in cost efficiency, accuracy, time, and also make some reflections on these aspectss relation to the objectives of the cadastral survey in the Koga dam project - compensation and consolidation.
