Land information systems (LIS) are described as complex communication processes between those who are in charge of data acquisitions (land surveyors) and users. This is shown by means of conceptual scheme of LIS, which demonstrates the many models of the reality then created. The simulated character of the data is stressed by its own uncertainty. Solutions are described in terms of uncertainty reduction and uncertainty absorption.
