Most countries have an annual property tax and in most cases the tax base is the market value of land and buildings. This means that the government has to estimate the market value of all taxable properties and, for the tax to be fair, it is important that a revaluation takes place at regular intervals, for example every four of five years. This valuation function for the recurrent property tax is the main topic of this section.
